Magnetoreception in Vertebrates
The work of Walker and colleagues provides the most complete proof of magnetoreception by vertebrates, in this case fish, to earth-level microTesla magnetic fields. His 1997 article outlines the criteria for establishing a magnetoreceptive system and provides electrophysiological and behavioral proofs; the 2000 paper clinches the proof by showing biomagnetite crystals in the olfactory receptor cells.
